I know that there is a wide divergence of opinion about Fanny and Edmund in the JA community (boring, silly, who would want him anyway, she's a ditz) but c'mon - there is so much to work with (brother's debauchery, adultery, conniving heartbreakers who have their own sad souls, etc.) and it was B-O-R-I-N-G. I wanted so much to like Billie Piper in this role, but I could not. Blake Ritson (sp?) was excellent as Edmund I thought and the rest of the cast was pretty darn good too (Mrs. Norris was not snotty enough.) But holy cow, dull, dull, dull. I even liked the silly scene with the lavender cutting, at least there was some action. Funny story - my 11-year-old son decided to watch with us (I suspect because it meant he could stay up a bit later.) About 30 minutes in, he says, "I thought someone gets killed, isn't this a murder mystery?" He thought he was watching Gosford Park!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
